Event Details

This Tuesday, afternoon-long event will explore major trends in picture-book art and design of recent decades by looking back across the 65-year-old history of the New York Times Book Review‘s annual Ten Best Illustrated Children’s Books of the Year Award. The Times‘ children’s books editor Maria Russo will introduce the program, followed by a pictorial survey of the award-winners by Leonard. Then two panel discussions will round out the program: the first with Times award-winning illustrators Suzy Lee, Beatrice Alemagna, Laura Carlin, Sydney Smith, and Paul O. Zelinsky; the second with publishers Deirdre McDermott (Walker UK), Anne Schwartz (Schwartz & Wade/Random House), Beatrice Vincent (Albin Michel), Neal Porter (Holiday House), Patricia Aldana (president, IBBY Foundation/CCPPG), and moderator Steven Guarnaccia. The afternoon will end with a celebratory prosecco toast!
